Metal, Setting & Care Guide
Choosing Your Metal and Setting
The metal and setting you choose shape how your piece looks, feels and wears. Use this guide to compare our metals, colours and setting styles before you order.
Which gold should I choose: 9K, 14K or 18K?
The number is the karat, which tells you how much of the alloy is pure gold: 9K is 37.5% gold, 14K is 58.5% and 18K is 75%. More gold gives a richer colour; less gold generally means a harder, more affordable piece.
9K Gold
A practical and durable gold option with a lower gold content (37.5%). Ideal if you want strength and value at a more accessible price.
14K Gold
A well-balanced choice for fine jewellery (58.5% gold), combining durability, gold content and everyday wearability.
18K Gold
A premium option with a higher gold content (75%), giving a richer colour and a luxurious finish. Commonly chosen for high-end custom jewellery.
Other metals
Platinum
A naturally white precious metal known for its exceptional durability and premium feel. Platinum 950 is a popular choice for engagement rings and heirloom-quality jewellery.
Sterling Silver
An affordable and versatile option for selected designs. Sterling silver 925 suits customers who want beautiful jewellery at a lower price point.
Gold Vermeil
Gold vermeil is a gold layer of defined minimum thickness over sterling silver, giving the look of gold at a more accessible price.
Metal colours

Popular setting styles
Solitaire Setting
A timeless design that showcases a single centre stone with elegant simplicity.
Halo Setting
A centre stone surrounded by smaller diamonds to maximise sparkle and create the appearance of a larger centre stone.
Hidden Halo Setting
A discreet circle of diamonds positioned beneath the centre stone, adding brilliance from the side view.
Pavé Setting
Small diamonds set closely together along the band to create continuous sparkle.
Bezel Setting
A sleek metal rim surrounds the stone, providing excellent protection with a modern appearance.
Prong Setting
A classic design where metal claws securely hold the stone while allowing maximum light to enhance brilliance.
Low-Profile Setting
Designed to sit closer to the finger for increased comfort and practicality during everyday wear.
Cathedral Setting
The band rises gracefully toward the centre stone, creating an elegant and elevated appearance.
Which setting suits everyday wear?
Selecting the right setting is as important as choosing the stone. For everyday wear, many customers prefer secure stone settings, comfortable band profiles and practical, low-maintenance designs. A higher setting looks more dramatic, while a lower-profile setting is more comfortable for daily wear.
If you use your hands a lot for work or lead an active lifestyle, more protective settings may suit you better: bezel settings, low-profile settings and well-protected prong settings.
How do I care for my jewellery?
- Remove jewellery before exercising, swimming, cleaning or heavy manual work.
- Avoid harsh chemicals, perfumes, lotions and household cleaning products.
- Clean gently with warm soapy water and a soft brush, then dry with a soft, lint-free cloth.
- Store each piece separately to prevent scratches.
- Have stone settings professionally checked if you wear the piece regularly.
- Avoid wearing delicate jewellery during activities that may cause bending, impact or damage.
Can my ring be resized?
Divara Jewellery offers one free first resize within 60 days of purchase on eligible rings, which are generally solid band designs. Full eternity bands, heavily detailed or pavé-set bands and some custom designs may have resizing limitations. Check the listing or ask us before you order.
What does the warranty cover?
Every piece is backed by a 12-month craftsmanship warranty covering manufacturing and workmanship faults.
The warranty does not cover normal wear and tear, accidental damage, misuse, stone loss caused by impact, or damage resulting from improper care or maintenance. It is provided in addition to your rights under the Australian Consumer Law.
