How to Find Your Ring Size at Home

Ring size is one of the few specs you have to get right before you order, since resizing isn't guaranteed on every style. Here's how to measure it accurately at home, and how the major sizing systems compare.

Two ways to measure at home

The string or paper method

Wrap a thin strip of string or paper around the base of your finger, mark where it overlaps, then measure that length flat against a ruler and compare it to a ring size chart.

The existing ring method

Measure the inner diameter of a ring that already fits the intended finger well, and compare that measurement to a size chart.

A couple of things that affect accuracy either way: measure at the end of the day, when fingers are at their largest, and remember that wider bands generally need to be sized slightly larger than thin bands to fit the same finger comfortably.

Comparing sizing systems

Australia uses the same letter-based system as the UK (A through Z, then A1, B1...), while the US and Canada use a numeric scale (roughly 3–13, with half and quarter sizes). The EU measures inner circumference directly in millimetres. Here's an approximate conversion:

These are commonly used approximate conversions — actual millimetre measurements can vary slightly by manufacturer and band width. If you're between sizes, or ordering from outside Australia and converting from a different system, it's worth getting a professional sizing rather than relying on the table alone.
